Feb 26, 2025. Deidra Miniard, the Director of A2SI, gave a presentation at the Planet Texas 2050 Symposium as part of a panel on Data, Design, and Decision-Making: Integrating Research, Policy, and Community Engagement in Austin. She spoke on the benefit and contributions of the A2SI project.

Feb 27, 2025. Yuer Wang, a PhD student at the LBJ School of Public Affairs presented a poster at the Planet Texas 2050 Symposium. Her poster discussed how community-centered surveys can be a useful tool to engage residents and community organizations in shaping resilient and equitable climate adaptation efforts.

Data Preview & Reflections with Go Austin Vamos Austin
Oct 28, 2024. The A2SI team met with community organizers from Go Austin Vamos Austin (GAVA) to discuss survey data collected from Dove Springs and Rundberg residents, with a focus on emergency preparedness, employment, childcare, and environmental concerns.

Data from A2SI featured in the Resilience Hub Report
Aug 2024. A report for the City of Austin on the Resilience Hub Network featured data from A2SI on emergency preparedness and experience of environmental hazards, such as flooding, extreme heat, or winter storms.

Summer REU program with students Willow and and Abby comes to a close
Aug 2024. Willow and Abby joined the A2SI project as part of the Research Experience for Undergraduates program, funded by the NSF and lead by the Environmental Science Institute at UT Austin. During this 8-week program, Abby and Willow gained research experience by assisting with the lab's research activities and conducting an independent research project.

REU Student Abby Couture presents her research on Tree Canopy Cover, Social Vulnerability, and Climate Anxiety
Jul 21, 2024. Abby Couture, an undergraduate at Wellesley College completing her bachelor's degree in education and environmental studies presented her project investigating climate anxiety, green space, and social vulnerability. She found that there was more greenspace in areas with more community relationships, and areas with more social vulnerability live in areas with less tree cover.

REU Student Willow Nagai presents her research on Emergency Preparedness
Jul 21, 2024. Willow Nagai, an Undergraduate at the University of Rochester majoring in Political Science and Environmental Studies, presented her project investigating resilience hubs, cooling centers, and social vulnerability in the Austin area. She found that Austin residents who have more income, good health status, access to a car, and stronger community relationships are more prepared for emergencies.
